Only two COVID-19 patients hospitalized at the EOHU

COVID-19 hospitalizations plummeted on Thursday as a new outbreak was reported by the Eastern Ontario Health Unit.

The EOHU’s daily update noted that there are only two people hospitalized for treatment, down by one since its update on Wednesday.

No new related deaths were disclosed, after the health unit released issue 202 on Wednesday. Ontario data from Thursday morning showed a new related death, a man in his 60s who was tested on February 6 and whose acquisition information was shown to have no known link to another confirmed case. .

Test positivity released on Thursday fell 0.3% to 11.2%.

Ontario case count data updated each morning attributed 24 new cases to the EOHU, for a cumulative total of 13,803. The Standard-Freeholder continues to track and aggregate local COVID-19 data , including active cases in long-term care facilities, as well as absenteeism reports for Cornwall/SDG schools. A new outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at Jardins Belle Rive in Rockland, which is also home to the other ongoing group care outbreak, at Manoir Rockland. Ontario data on active cases of COVID-19 in long-term care homes continued to show no such cases in these EOHU facilities.

Absenteeism reports for students and staff at Cornwall/SDG schools/programs showed only two absences above 30% on Wednesday, the TR Leger campus in Cornwall (78%) and the SD&G program for teenagers (40%). The data does not provide the reason for the absence.

Finally, the EOHU reported 364 additional COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the region since its update on Thursday, for a total of 460,513 administered since January 12, 2021.
