Dozens of pharmacies and clinics in Manatee County offer the COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5 to 11.
The pediatric vaccine has a smaller needle and a smaller dose compared to the vaccine for adolescents and adults. The United States Food and Drug Administration approved the Pfizer vaccine for emergency use in late October, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended the vaccine last week.
And both American Academy of Pediatrics and the The American Academy of Family Physicians approved the shot.
The vaccine, they said, can help prevent serious illness or death, and it can prevent children from spreading COVID-19 to vulnerable friends, family, classmates and neighbors.

FamilyCare Discount Pharmacy, 3633 Cortez Road W. in Bradenton, accepts walk-in visits for the pediatric vaccine. The store, in Suite B9, is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
Ellenton Discount Pharmacy, 8324 US Highway 301 N. in Parrish, is open to walk-in people from noon to 6 p.m. on weekdays. Families can also make an appointment online at the following link:
