Johnson kicks off two-day tour with roadshow from Ahmedabad airport

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson India visits Live Updates: Beginning his two-day visit to India, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson arrived in Ahmedabad on Thursday morning. On the first day of his tour, Johnson met Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad. Sharing a photo of the meeting on Twitter, Adani wrote, “Honored to welcome Boris Johnson, the first British Prime Minister to visit Gujarat, to Adani Headquarters. Pleased to support the climate and sustainability agenda with a focus on renewable energy, green H2 and new energy. Will also work with UK companies to co-create defense and aerospace technologies. He also visited a JCB factory with Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel.

Johnson said he hoped the UK would strike another free trade deal with India by the end of the year. British and Indian companies are set to announce investment and export deals worth over £1 billion, in fields ranging from software engineering to healthcare. Science and technology collaborations, including a digital health partnership and a joint investment fund for Indian hi-tech and AI start-ups, supported by both governments; new AI scholarships for Indian students jointly funded by the UK government’s Chevening program and India’s Adani Group; and a £6 million investment by AI health specialists Qure.ai to open a center of excellence in the UK are set to be announced.

He began his visit with an introductory tour from Ahmedabad airport to his hotel on Thursday morning. In the city, he will visit Gandhi’s Ashram, then visit Gujarat Biotechnology University, Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar and also a factory of JCB company in Halol near Vadodara city, have sources told PTI. He is also expected to hold a closed meeting with a “prominent businessman in the state”, PTI reported.
