Henry Ford Health System demands that all of its approximately 33,000 workers be vaccinated against COVID-19. Officials say anyone without verified exemptions who have not been vaccinated by September 10 will have their employment terminated.
Dr Dennis Cunningham is Director of Infection Control and Prevention in the Hospital System. He says about 70% of Henry Ford’s staff have already received the vaccine.

“Like other health care systems, says Cunningham, we are seeing a decline in the number of non-clinical administrative teams. We suspect that part of the reason for this could be that so many of our non-clinical teams are working remotely and choosing to wait to receive their vaccines. “
Cunningham says to mandate COVID-19 vaccines is in line with existing policies of the Henry Ford health system. He says that every year, all employees must receive the annual flu shot.
Bob Riney is the President of Healthcare Operations and the Chief Operating Officer of the Healthcare System. He says Henry Ford will work with his employees to make sure vaccines are available.
“Some people may choose not to get the vaccine and quit their jobs at Henry Ford Health System. But we don’t expect that number to be very large, âhe said.
Officials say exemptions on religious and medical grounds will be considered. However, they say those waivers will likely be limited to people who have an allergic reaction to the first dose or a known allergy to an ingredient in the vaccine.
