Calvert County Commissioners Recognize 2022 Nursing Graduates

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – CSM Nursing Graduate Kathryn Humphreys was joined by CSM Chair Dr. Maureen Murphy in proudly accepting the proclamation from the Calvert County Board of Commissioners celebrating today’s Spring 2022 Nursing Graduates from CSM.

Humphreys was one of 17 Calvert County residents in the spring nursing diploma class that saw 69 students from across the region become nurses.

Additionally, this spring, the CSM also recognized 84 graduates in programs to become Certified Nurses and Geriatric Practical Nurses, Clinical Physician Assistants, Certified Dental Assistants, Phlebotomy Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, Nutrition Trainers , medical laboratory technicians and health information management specialists.

Humphreys, of Prince Frederick, has been a certified practical nurse for seven years and currently works at Dr Mehta Pediatrics.

She also served as a bereavement volunteer at Calvert Hospice for seven years helping with programs for children and teens.

She now holds associate degrees in general studies, applied science and technology, pre-professional health sciences, and nursing. She received a scholarship from the Prince Frederick Masonic Lodge where her father was a 32n/a Mason degree and she was also awarded the CSM Dr. Nallan Ramakrishna Scholarship.

In August, Humphreys begins work at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for her nursing residency as part of her work as a registered nurse in their psychiatric inpatient unit. Her goal is to become a nurse practitioner in child and adolescent psychiatry.

“I want nothing more than to help our young people who are struggling to overcome and manage their illnesses, just as I did as a teenager after the loss of my father; and be part of a culture to help end the horrible and unfair stigma attached to mental illness,” she shared.

Encompassing credit degree programs like Nursing, EMS, Medical Laboratory Technology, etc., and Continuing Workforce Education certificates in a variety of specialties like Phlebotomy, CNA/ GNA and EKG/EKG Technicians, the Health Pathway at CSM has a wide range of medical training for a number of different careers.
